Gosok Phuntsok Choling Monastery in Kathmandu, Nepal was established by Kyabje Gosok Rinpoche for young monks. It was inaugurated in July 2002 and Rinpoche has organized a course of comprehensive study of Buddhism combined with the traditional religious themes of basic reading, writing and arithmetic. In the near future foreign languages and computer science will also be taught. Currently there are approximately one hundred monks practicing there. The monastery is situated behind the holy Swoyambhu Stupa.

Gelek Sangye was born in Kapre village in Nepal. His father worked as a trekking guide guide over the Himalayan Mountain but now unable to work due to old age. His mother earns very little income helping the marriage party. As a child, Gelek was interested in studying Buddhism and wanted to become a monk. He is the chant master in the monastery.
Gelek Tsultrim’s parents are farmers from the remote area of Bomdila, Arunachal Pradesh, India. He has two brothers and two sisters. The little income that her family earns from farming is not sufficient for them to support his family. He requested his family to allow him to study and to become a monk.
Gelek Tsephel was born in the village of Bhalukpung, Arunachal Pradesh, India. His parents are seasonal building construction workers and he has one elder sister and a brother and a younger brother. It was his wish to become a monk and therefore his parents send him to the monastery.
Gelek Konchok was born to a poor family in a very remote village in Tawang, Arunachal Pradesh, India. His parents earn their living by working on small fields. He has one elder brother and 2 elder sisters. It was his own Gelek his own wish to become a monk.
Gelek kunchen is from Montang, Arunachal Pradesh, India. He has an elder brother and a sister and his mother had passed away. His father not being able to afford school fees due to his meagre income as yak herder, sent Gelek to the monastery to become a monk.
Geek Nyima’s parents are farmers from the remote area of Bomdila, North East India. He has one brother and three sisters. His parent’s income from farming is not sufficient to provide education for their children. He was therefore sent to monastery to study.
